Brian Hizhoe Lerche
Who is Hizhoe? To some its etymology can be traced to an early 00’s Jay-Z hit. To my Grandfather, who selected my middle name, it roughly translates to “state from across the ocean.” Which is probably just a poetic (maybe even a little pretentious) way to say I was raised in California. To me, it’s the constant reminder of the duality of life. As someone of Asian American and Germanic descent, my upbring was a blend of cultures and a clash of customs. My identity reminds me that while we often perceive life in plain blacks and whites, reality is painted with many greys and “in-betweens.” I apply this to all aspects of my being.

- Backpacking/camping
- Offroading/overlanding
- Traveling with my wife
- Muay Thai (thai kick-boxing)
- Losing tools under the hood of my project car
- Publishing articles about the tools I’ve lost under the hood of my project car
